 The Brevity of Life

The brevity of life, a subject rarely considered by the young, but increasingly pondered by the elderly. Let’s be honest: when you’re young, it feels like you have all the time in the world. But the years pass quickly. Before we know it, childhood fades into adulthood, and we hear phrases like “midlife crisis” or “do you need hearing aids?” Life moves fast. And once you’re older, you can’t help but wonder: What happened?

This teaches us something vital, we may think we have time, but we don’t. Even Scripture warns us not to squander our precious days. Are you using your time wisely? Is it aligned with God’s purpose for your life, His divine plan?

It’s important to remember that our time on Earth is temporary. Sooner than we realize, we’ll stand before the throne of judgment. Are we ready?

The psalmist declares, “My times are in Your hands, O Lord.” (Psalm 31:15) We live such busy lives, and in the hustle, we often lose sight of what truly matters. We forget our first priority, our relationship with God.

Even the average believer knows that, at the very least, we’re called to lead godly, exemplary lives, walking in a way that pleases our Savior. Jesus gave His life for us, and that alone should motivate us to listen to the Holy Spirit, our Comforter, who gently guides us back when we stray.

The committed Christian has no doubt, it’s all about love. As the apostle Paul said, “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” (1 John 4:8)

With that truth in mind, and knowing how brief life is, we must be intentional about putting God and our Lord Jesus Christ first in everything.

No time to read the Bible? Make time. No time for fellowship? Make time.
 When your priorities are in the right order, everything else will fall into place.

As Jesus Himself reminds us:
 “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33)

Let’s put our faith in our Creator and ensure we’re prepared for that great moment, the return of our Lord Jesus Christ. He will descend to take us to our eternal home, where time no longer holds power. In the presence of God, time ceases to exist.

So let us not waste the days we’ve been given. May our Creator hold you firmly in the grip of His grace until that moment arrives.
